Elizabeth Threlkeld
The Senior Fellow and Director of the South Asia Program at the Stimson Center

Elizabeth Threlkeld is a distinguished expert in South Asian geopolitics and currently serves as the Senior Fellow and Director of the South Asia Program at the Stimson Center. Her professional background includes significant roles such as a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State, with postings in Islamabad and Peshawar, Pakistan, and Monterrey, Mexico. Threlkeld has extensive field experience, including managing development projects in northern Iraq focused on gender-based violence and ethno-sectarian reconciliation. She holds an MPhil in Politics and International Relations from the University of Cambridge, where her research centred on governance reforms in Pakistan’s western border region. Threlkeld's academic foundation is a B.A. with High Honors in Sociology and Anthropology from Swarthmore College. Her linguistic skills include Pashto, Mandarin, and Spanish, and she has been honoured with multiple awards for her service and language proficiency.
