Lt. Gen. Raj Shukla

Lt. Gen. Raj Shukla, PVSM, YSM, SM (Retd.), appointed as a member of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on July 18, 2022, brings over 40 years of distinguished service in the Indian Army. An alumnus of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, the College of Defence Management, Secunderabad, and the National Defence College, New Delhi, he has commanded an Infantry Brigade in Counter-Insurgency Operations, the Baramulla Division along the Line of Control, and a Pivot Corps along the Western Borders. He has held significant positions including Director General of Perspective Planning at the Military Operations Directorate and was Commandant of the Army War College. As the 22nd Army Commander of the Training Command (ARTRAC), he made significant contributions to India’s military education and strategic planning. Recognised for his service with the Param Vishisht Seva Medal in 2021, General Shukla is also a skilled aviator, renowned speaker, and prolific writer with over 70 publications on strategic-military affairs.
